Subtitle and Caption Translation That Is Timed, Formatted, and Accurate.

Subtitle translation is not the same as document translation. Subtitles have timing constraints, character-per-line limits, reading speed requirements, and formatting rules that affect how the translation must be structured. A subtitle translator who produces an accurate translation of the speech but exceeds the reading speed standard for that market creates subtitles that viewers cannot read comfortably. A translator who ignores line breaks produces subtitles that look wrong on screen even if they are technically accurate.

We translate subtitle and caption files with awareness of the timing, formatting, and reading speed requirements specific to video content. For SRT and VTT files, we work within the existing timing structure and flag timing issues in the source if they exist. For SCC and other broadcast formats, we handle the specific encoding requirements of the format.

Subtitle translation requests typically include one of: translation of an existing subtitle file in the source language; translation of a cleaned transcript with timecode alignment; or creation of a bilingual reference file with source and translated subtitles for review. We can deliver any of these formats.

For training videos, e-learning modules, and software demo recordings, we also produce voice-over ready scripts -- translations that are adapted for speech rather than reading, with consistent timing relative to the source audio, and flagged for any segments where the target language requires additional time relative to the source speech length.
